SEO in Public, Month 1: Ranking Our Own Agency From Nowhere

We sell SEO, and for "seo agency" we are not in Google's first 65 results. Here is our dated baseline, what we changed this week, and what we will not do to move the numbers.

On the morning of 2 October we searched Google Malaysia for “seo agency” and kept scrolling. Page one, page two, page three. Sixty-five results in, Total Web Solutions still had not appeared. We sell SEO, and for the most obvious search in our own trade, we are nowhere.

Most agencies would keep that quiet. We would rather write it down, date it, and show you every month what we change and what moves. This is the first entry in that log. If the numbers do not move, you will read that here too.

Where we are starting from

All figures are from 2 October 2026, Google Malaysia, in English. Rankings come from third-party rank tracking and live checks; link counts come from a third-party backlink index. Different tools count differently, so what matters is the change from month to month, not any single number.

What we measured2 Oct 2026
“seo agency” (about 2,400 searches a month in Malaysia)Not in the first 65 results
“seo agency malaysia” (about 1,900 a month)Not in the first 45 results
SEO-related searches we rank for at allOne: “seo price malaysia”, at #53, with our pricing page
Other websites linking to ours59 domains, most of them “website by” credits on sites we built
The agencies on page oneTypically hundreds of linking domains each

That last row is the honest headline. Our pages can be as good as anyone’s, but Google also weighs how much of the web vouches for a site, and on that we are small. We said the same thing in our comparison of Malaysian SEO agencies, where we have the fewest linking domains of anyone on the list.

What we changed this week

Everything below is live and checkable. None of it involved buying anything.

  1. We answered the question people are actually asking. Google’s results for “seo agency” are full of “how do I choose one” content, and our SEO agency page mostly explained what SEO is. It now has a section on how to choose an SEO agency in Malaysia: what one does, what Malaysian agencies publish as prices, and six questions to ask before you sign.
  2. We fixed a bug in our own structured data. On two of our service pages, the FAQ markup that Google reads had merged two questions into one answer, because one link sat in the wrong place in the HTML. Both pages now describe every question cleanly. It is the kind of fault nobody sees on the page itself, which is exactly why it gets missed.
  3. We pointed our own links at the right page. About forty links across the site led to our SEO page, and not one of them said “agency”. Four now do, in places where the wording reads naturally. We did not rewrite all forty; a site where every link says the same thing reads as manipulation, to people and to Google.
  4. We re-dated our own claims. Three pages on this site said a client “now holds” page-one rankings. When we checked live from the clinic’s own town, Google did not show what the rank tracker had recorded. “Near me” searches depend on where you are standing, so both readings can be true at once. We rewrote all three as dated records, and every figure we publish now carries a date and the place it was checked from.
  5. We started showing our work on client sites. The Home Dietitians case study now has a dated SEO record: where the practice appears in Google Maps and in the ordinary results, kept separate, with links so you can run the same checks yourself.

What we will not do to move these numbers

  • Buy links, or link “packages”. Sites that link to many SEO agencies at once are easy to find, and a lot of them are the kind Google discounts or penalises.
  • Publish our own star rating in search results. Our 5.0 comes from seven Google reviews. We leave it on Google, where we cannot edit it.
  • Write a “top 10 SEO agencies” list with ourselves at number one. We know it works. It is also the thing we tell clients not to trust.

What to expect, honestly

Page changes usually take weeks to show in Google, sometimes longer, and SEO is measured in months. Small movement is likely before big movement. The bigger gap is links, and earning those properly is slow: listings where buyers actually compare agencies, clients who choose to mention us, and data worth citing.

The next entry comes out in the first week of November, compared against the table above. You can also check us yourself at any time: search “seo agency” and see where we are. Results vary by location and device, so yours may differ from ours.

Want the same for your site?

Every SEO engagement we run starts like this: a dated, written baseline before we change anything, so you can see exactly what our work did and did not move. If you would like one for your website, send us your site and we will reply in writing.
